Details

Spread over 400 rai (160 acres) of lush, rolling hills, this par 72, 18 holes course has been carefully designed to blend beautifully with the natural terrain. Nestled below a panoramic range of peaks, the layout surrounds the largest lake on any golf course in Phuket - Crystal Lake. With a gentle breeze and more than 1,400 towering palms lining the fairways, you’re treated to a very scenic course along with the many challenging hazards and greens. Complimenting the golf course is a sprawling country-style clubhouse covering up to 5 rai (2 acres). Here, you can dine at the lake-side terrace or watch balls drop in the lake as you practice your swing at the attached aqua driving range. Optional golf cars are available.

Signature Hole

Hole 16th Par 3 - 220 yards This is the most challenging hole beside a large lake. The green is squeeze by two sand bunkers. A bad bunker play from the left sand bunker will cause the ball roll down the hill quickly. To get the ball from the right bunker is not eas as the bunker is at least 2 meters depth. This difficult green will easily cause you at least three putts

Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa

Out: 3469 yards, In 3337 yards, Total 6806 yards. Par 72 Phuket's first 21st Century championship course lies on the scenic north-east coast. A nine-hole night golf course, due to open in early 2005, is also close by in the foothills. The courses are 10 minutes' drive from the airport and 30 minutes from Phuket City. RATING: Mission Hills might be by the sea but it is not a links course. It actually bears no similarity to other courses on the island but probably reflects Phuket's character most accurately. Nicklaus Design has added some distinguishing quirks, like the two greens that offer alternative finishes on Hole 18. Paspalum Sea Isle grasses add stunning colors and thrive in the salty soil. FACILITIES: Five target greens make the driving range an accurate reflection of the game. International restaurants, bar lounges and a swimming pool are part of the 72 room-resort. There is also a pro shop, patio cafe, kiosks, plus a private function room, and of course a spa.

On The Course

Mission Hills has been carved from rubber plantations and sits among Phuket's environmentally-friendly mangroves. Great expanses of white sand beach bunkers have been added to contrast with the translucent blue hues of the ocean and the vibrant greens of the Sea Isle grassed fairways and putting surfaces. It is accurately described as a “piece of living art,” the kind of pastiche that Vincent Van Goh would have created given half a chance and a love of a long drive. The ocean views are delivered at a price: water comes in to play at seven holes. The sea breezes also are a regular feature. What time of day you choose to play can turn a following zephyr into a stiff headwind. While the spa awaits at the 19th hole, stress and tiredness are further banished with caddies and golf carts both being compulsory. It is not unknown for snacks to be delivered out on the course at lunchtime.

TOP HOLES:

Hole 4, first of the ocean holes, is a medium-length par three with spectacular views across the Phuket Sea. The putting surface is an island of grass in a sea of white sand.

One island, two greens: Hole 2 is a par five that requires two well-placed shots to give the golfer a comfortable third to the island putting surface . The island is shared with the green for Hole 5, a par 4 that plays back towards the clubhouse from tees situated in a sandy expanse.

Phuket Country Club

Phuket Country Club was established in 1989, and built over a reclaimed tin mine, the course provides a challenge for golfers of all levels. Host to the Ladies Kosaido Thailand Open 1992 and Prince Bernard Cup tournaments, the club offers two courses with 27 holes. Voted "Best Course in Thailand" by Asian Golf Magazine 2001 and "Best Holes Par-Five" by Asian Golf Magazine 2001 (Hole #10.)

Golf Course Summary:

Designed by Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai Opened May 1989 27 holes, 72+37 par Old Course: 18 holes Country Club Course: 9 holes (Yardage & Par Rating calculated as 18 holes) Total Yardage 6,484 + 3,575

General Info.

There are two courses with 27 holes in total.

Old Course: 18 holes

Country Club Course: 9 holes (Yardage & Par Rating calculated as 18 holes) The OLD COURSE provides a strenuous 18-hole, 6483 yards, par 72 golf game. Hole #10, 557 yards par 5, is one of the most unusual holes you will find anywhere; a dog-leg right that snakes around an enormous lake and is reachable in one! Set in a valley, with fairways meandering through the hills, the course offers six holes in undulating hills, six holes on the level and six holes through landscaped forest. Although high handicappers have the best round of their lives and keep coming back for more, the low handicap golfers still find the course quite a challenge.

The COUNTRY CLUB COURSE is a challenging 3575 yards (championship tee) par 37, 9-hole course, particularly suitable for the low handicap golfer. The picturesque beauty of the scenery and layout, somewhat softens the difficulty of the course. Watch out for those wayward shots; all are penalized either landing in water or out-of-bounds. However, with five tee-off boxes at each hole, you have a choice of making it less of an ordeal. The distinctive feature is water which comes into play 80% of the time. (Hint: high handicap golfers, remember to purchase a few dozen second hand balls from the Pro Shop before tee off! You might just need a few!)
